We are planning several industry tours on Monday 26 October, the day before the conference. Locations across the South West and representing different industries. Subject to change. Limited numbers.
Port of Bunbury and Waterfront Tour
Boat tour on the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project and Southern Ports’ Port of Bunbury operations and future plans. The Bunbury waterfront and port development projects, supported by the State Government, will underpin economic opportunities around the waterfront and wider region. View the transformation of facilities, port related industries, tourism activation and potential investment opportunities. Enjoy a wonderful selection of a smorgasbord lunch while cruising the bay. Hosted by Southern Ports and the Dolphin Discovery, with a Southern Ports senior executive tour guide. Tour departs and returns from the Dolphin Discovery Centre.
Margaret River and Witchcliffe Agri-Inspiration
A full-day coach tour following emerging agricultural industries across the South West. Fibre, building materials and consumer products at Margaret River Hemp Co, then hemp-lime block manufacturing at Hemp Squared. A visit to Witchcliffe “The Ecovillage” takes guests completely off the grid to see circular economy in practice, with its own waste processing facility, communal nut trees, vegetable gardens, organic farming, four dams, marron, and a fruit and vegetable co-op. A morning tea break at the Ecovillage, then a packed picnic lunch at Cambray Cheese, where the cheesemaker talks through the farm, cheese production and the innovative practices behind it, followed by a tasting of their cheeses and sheep milk. Catering provided. Bus departs BREC Bunbury 8am, returns 5pm, with a potential pick up location in Busselton TBC.
The South West Visionary Tour
Discover the potential future for the South West. Hear about a range of projects designed for economic development opportunities and enhanced liveability. Multi local government presentations from the Shires of Capel, Dardanup and the City of Bunbury will outline the potential for the region and how key government investments are supporting growth. The tour will start at the new Shire of Dardanup premises, with lunch at the City of Bunbury and finishing the tour at the Shire of Capel. Catering provided. Bus departs and returns to BREC Bunbury.
Collie Just Transition and Energy Bus Tour
Collie is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation, with State Government investment attracting new industries to the region, and supporting existing business to expand and grow. Visit some of the key industry developments, showcasing this investment and demonstrating the growth of Collie. View sites critical to delivering green energy and innovation now and in the future. Afternoon tea will be provided as part of the bus tour and a final stop at Wellington Dam will also provide opportunities for photos and visiting the Tourist Centre. Bus departs and returns to BREC Bunbury.
Advanced Manufacturing Bus and Site Tour
Starting off at RCR Mining Technologies with a Site Visit. A recent recipient of State Government Grants Funding to establish an advanced manufacturing training hub with South Regional TAFE. Lunch will then be served at the recent initiative of the Shire of Dardanup – the “Make It Space” with demonstrations of the 3D printers available for community use. The bus will then continue to South West Timber Hub demonstrating the unique partnership between Laminex, Wespine, Hexion and FPC. The tour will finish with a drive around of the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub Picton site and with overview of future plans. PLEASE NOTE: PPE is required. Visitors need to wear flat closed shoes, preferably steel capped safety boots if available, long pants and long-sleeved shirt. High vis vest, safety glasses and helmets will be provided. Water Recovery and Circular Economy
This tour will start with an exploration of how Aqwest’s Water Recovery Scheme is securing Bunbury’s water future by treating and distributing fit-for-purpose recycled water to irrigate public open space. This innovative project will reduce demand on the Yarragadee Aquifer and support long-term water security for the region. The tour will then visit some local hospitality sites with members of the South West Brewers Association for circular economy practices around waste water processing.
